Lenten Devotional, Day 12

Dear Saints,

As I mentioned, I'll break from writing on the Lord's Day.  This is the 2nd Sunday of Lent.  Beyond the devotionals, I'm exposing my congregation to various Lenten themes through the Sunday sermons.  Last Sunday we considered fasting.  Today we explored the notion of seeing others, esp. "the" other.

That said, if you are following the Lenten devotionals, the Scriptures for Day 12 are Genesis 12:1–4a; Psalm 121; Romans 4:1–5, 13–17; John 3:1–17; Matthew 17:1:1–9.

One more thing, an idea you might try with friends: Tonight one of our small groups will discuss the above Passages as a sorta group devotional.  But each is asked to sit at His feet in advance!  The discussion will be far more edifying.  Again, I wish this for all.

And yes, I know, obviously there is a place for individual, Spirit-led quiet times, yea, God encounters!  But Jews, for instance, have the daily Torah portion; Catholics, Greeks, & Mainlines have their Lectionaries.  Sometimes I wish Evangelicals & Pentecostals were devoting from the same song sheet (to mix a metaphor).  Imagine stopping for coffee with a friend, sitting by each other at a game, meeting in the grocery aisle, and in that varied pause, saying: Hey, what did you get from the readings today?  O wouldn't that be joy?

The Only Best in/is Christ,

tIM
